Swim Meet 101

Swimmer and volunteer check in procedure
- Swimmers should arrive at the pool the day of the meet ready to swim and already "marked up" for their events. Swimmers are expected to stay in the Gator Pit, which is a special area for the team to stay together so they can be lined up for their events by our Gator Wranglers. Volunteers should check in with our swim team chairperson at least 30 minutes before the meet begins to get what they need to complete their volunteer assignment. Parents are expected to volunteer AT EVERY MEET their swimmer is participating in.

What to bring
- Everyone needs: Their positive attitude and Gator team spirit!
- Swimmers need: Swim suit, cap, goggles, towel(s), sunscreen, plenty of water, and any snacks you wish to send (ABSOLUTELY NO PEANUTS). Many pools, including our own, sell concessions during meets so often food is available for purchase. Many swimmers like to bring something warmer to put on over their suit between events and after the meet.
- Volunteers need: Sunscreen, comfortable shoes and clothes you wouldn't mind getting splashed. Sunglasses and/or a hat can be helpful. You're welcome to bring snacks also. Water will be provided to adult volunteers during home and away meets. Any equipment you may need to perform your volunteer activity (clipboard, pencil, stopwatch, etc) will be provided when you check in before the meet. Volunteers and other adults coming to the meet should bring their own chairs.

Timeline
- Swimmers should arrive at the pool between 4:30 and 4:45. Home team warm-ups begin at 5:00, away team warm-ups begin at 5:15. Meets begin at 5:30 pm. Stroke and turn judges, referees, starters and timers will have a meeting called to go over expectations about 15 minutes before the meet begins. Meets usually last 3 to 4 hours.
- A swim meet has 84 events. If we are able, events will be combined to expedite the meet. After each meet, we gather briefly together to get a treat, celebrate and for the coaches to hand out Gator Awards.
- If your swimmer is NOT able to attend a meet, please let coaching staff know ASAP.
